Curious About Tropical Vibes

Summer’s Here! The British summer has been unsettled but the High Street is buzzing with tropical prints and colours.  Whip up a riot of accents in lush botanical greens for a tropical oasis vibe.

Express the more relaxed, fun ‘you’ this summer with the essence of that holiday feeling right here at home. Imagine lying on a beach bathing in the sunshine with your favourite book, surrounded by swaying palms vivid flora and turquoise skies. From jungle fabrics and carnival colours to palm tree accessories and bistro lights, strung indoors as well as out; embrace the daring clashes found in tropical sunsets by using bold blocks rather than tiny details to make that instant statement. That’s the look.

Home to pattern overload, House of Hackney (HOH) have lots of inspo, but I’ve picked out their Ananas Pineapple Lamp (£425) with Daley Lampshade in White/Azura (£125) to style with Cole & Son’s Palm jungle wallpaper for a simple layered effect. (Contemporary Restyled, Palm Jungle 95/1003 £82 per 10m roll by Cole & Son).

Another gem is the Miami wallpaper by Cole & Son.  It depicts elegantly tiled terraces, colonnades and pillars against a backdrop of lush tropical vegetation, verdant palms and exotic flora. A mash up that offers an unusual way to inject some colour, opulence and a touch of quirky humour into your home. (Geometric II, Miami 105/4017 £295 per 10m roll. Cole & Son). To temper the visual feast add a block of grained or textured wood furniture (try the Newman Sideboard £899 at John Lewis) and a squidgy Flopster sofa in Spiced Orange (£1495 Loaf.com) – made from a ‘Clever Velvet’, it’s spill resistant making it perfect sipping a Caipirinha or Cachacao.

Party to summer tunes on a Crosley Cruiser record player in orange (£69.99 Curry’s) and bursts of saturated rainforest coloured table accessories like this Palm Table Runner (£18) with Berry glassware (From £4. John Lewis). And when the carnival atmosphere peaks, chill out in an area adorned with tropical and textured garden cushions (Parrots Cushion £35, Woven Stripe £25, Hessian Pompom Cushion £30. John Lewis).

If you prefer light and airy combine this breezy traveller look by Design Vintage, which includes a Faux Monstera stem (£17.50), Dark Zinc Console (£645), Herbarium Picture (£58.50) and terracotta pots (from £12), with swathes of this gorgeous fabric by Timorous Beasties (Topical Tropical fabric. £135.00 per metre).

Whether your travels inspire timeless effortless chic, or vibrant colour popping interiors, the aim is to live in spaces that make us come alive, like a great hotel or beach cafe. Banish drab and I promise the benefits of amazing interiors can be transformative, lifting spirits whatever the weather.
